Food Allergies and Special Dietary Needs: We Need Your Help

Food allergies and certain medical conditions can affect what a student is able to eat safely. If your child has a food allergy or special dietary need, please let us know so we can work with you to provide safe meals at school.

If your child needs a meal modification that changes the standard school meal pattern, we will need a Medical Plan of Care for School Food Service form from a qualified medical professional. This may include a physician, physician assistant, CRNP, Dentist, or registered dietitian, and it should be fully completed.

In some cases, simple substitutions can be made within the regular meal pattern without a medical statement. However, documentation from a medical professional helps us ensure we are meeting your child’s needs safely and correctly.

Milk Alternatives:
If your child cannot drink cow’s milk for non-disability reasons (such as a preference, intolerance, or dietary choice), the school may provide an approved milk alternative (such as soy milk or lactaid). A written note from a parent or guardian is required to request a milk alternative for lunch only. A medical plan of care is required for this substitution for breakfast as long as the beverage meets USDA nutrition standards.

Once we receive the documentation, our kitchen manager will work with you to review your child’s dietary needs and discuss how meals will be handled in the cafeteria. Our staff carefully review ingredient labels, follow procedures to prevent cross-contact, and work to ensure students can eat safely alongside their peers.

If your child’s allergy or dietary needs change, please notify us as soon as possible so we can update their information.

Providing safe meals for students is a shared effort, and we appreciate your partnership in helping us keep your child safe at school.
