Educational Program Overview
Educational Program Overview
The ELANCO School District has organized its vision of learning into five components that are designed to best prepare our learners for success in our classrooms, our community and beyond. Furthermore, the focus of our work will support our learners by providing authentic experiences that go beyond content and curriculum and build the “soft skills” that are in demand and transferable to any profession or work experience. When taken together, these core components will be known as our “Portrait of a Graduate” and will be the foundation of our future as a district.
The five components of the Portrait of a Graduate include:
- Collaborator,
- Communicator,
- Global Citizen,
- Goal-Directed, Resilient, and
- Innovative Problem-Solver.
Demonstrating the components of the Portrait of a Graduate depends upon authentic experiences to practice and then apply these traits. Our educational program, therefore, considers how these components can be incorporated into curricular as well as co-curricular experiences throughout the full educational career of our learners. These experiences are intentionally developed into each grade level and content area as we build and refine our curricula, our co-curricular experiences, as well as how our facilities and resources support this work.
The resources of the school district (financial, human, and capital) must be in alignment with the educational program to produce the results that are articulated and desired for the learners in the district and our community as a whole. When decisions regarding the funding or financing of any project or program arise, they must be compared to the needs of the educational program. The result of the comparison must be that form follows function, and where this is not evident, we must take the steps necessary to create this consistency.
The district goals are associated with High-Quality Academics and Supportive Learning Environments. These goal areas will be supported annually by professional learning that relies on evidence-based and actionable plans developed at the district and building levels and are implemented in each classroom throughout the district.
