Title I: Programs

www.elanco.org » District » Title I » Programs

The district is committed to providing a range of programs, instructional resources, and technology to prevent school failure.

Start Right

Time for tutor aides in kindergarten and grade one is provided, depending upon the needs of students within a building. Support is delivered in the areas of reading, writing and math for these grades. As in the past, support for these students is above and beyond the on-going instruction provided by the classroom teacher.

Extended Learning Kindergarten

Opportunities for at-risk students will be offered through an extended day kindergarten program. Students will be selected based on a screening conducted at kindergarten registration. The focus of the program will be on literacy and numeracy skills.

Take Off

This program is conducted by tutor aides and serves students in grades 2-6. Students are identified for reading, writing, and/or math needs. Most of the services are delivered in the classroom under the direction of the classroom teacher. Children are pulled out of the classroom when deemed necessary by an LFT recommendation.

Take Off - Upper Elementary Study Labs

This support is offered to eligible fifth and sixth graders through study labs depending on the needs within each building and the availability of tutors. Title I students served in the study lab receive help in various areas (e.g., publishing, science projects, homework assignments, study skills). Students may request the help and/or be referred by their teachers or parents.

Read On - Middle School

The "Read On" GSMS Title I Program is a combination of a push-in/pull-out program. The tutors meet with students, often outside of the regular classroom, to complete Sprint activities or Precision Teaching probes. Students in these situations are exposed to drills in reading fluency and skill mastery. During the instructional period, after direct instruction, teachers can direct tutors to utilize Bridges to Literacy, Jamestown Signature Series, or other supplemental materials as necessary to meet the goals set by the classroom teacher.

Add On - Middle School

The "Add On" GSMS Title I Program is a combination of a push-in/pull-out program. The tutors meet with students, sometimes outside of the regular classroom, to complete Precision Teaching activities, which focus on math basic fact fluency. Tutors also work on other math skill and concept attainment activities as directed by classroom teachers. The district funds math teachers to run math “HUB” periods, which stands for “helping students understand the basics.” Each math teacher has a designated math Title I HUB to meet the needs of Title I students. Title I tutors may push-in to these HUBs to assist the teachers as necessary, or the administrators and coordinator may decide that the tutors are needed to see other students during the HUB periods.
