Letter to Parents/Guardians 2010

August 2010

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

I hope this letter finds you surviving the summer heat and finding ways to enjoy all the family activities that come with the summer season.  It is hard to believe that summer is coming to an end and we are gearing up for another school year.  Know that your child/children are attending a school system that is very successful by many measures.  In the last few years, the schools of Eastern Lancaster County School District have realized high success on the state PSSA exam.  Our students have consistently maintained a position in the top third of the schools in the County.  In addition, Garden Spot High School has achieved one of the highest graduation rates in the County (measured by the number of students who start 9th grade and complete 12th grade).  Moreover, our students enjoy much success in academic-related competitions, in the performing arts, and in athletics.  In short, our students continue to demonstrate high levels of success in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities.  I am proud of our students, the faculty, the support staff, and the relationship that we have with our parents and community.  All of us contribute to student achievement and the accolades that our students receive.

Once again a great deal has occurred in the buildings this summer.  Buildings have been thoroughly cleaned; our technology was updated, and we have made additional improvements related to the safety of our students and staff.  Major construction continues at our Garden Spot campus.  District leadership is planning forward as we introduce new curriculum elements, including courses that blend traditional learning with on-line learning.  Our teachers continued to grow professionally this summer as they participated in workshops, seminars and formal graduate classes in order to advance themselves so they can better serve your child/children.

As you make preparations for the academic year ahead, I want to provide you with important (nuts and bolts) information that will assist you in your planning throughout the year:

We are all looking forward to a highly productive and successful year.

Sincerely,
